Who the heck are you, Karin and why should I study with you to learn how to give great little talks to fill my practice?
Well, if you must know. :) I am awesome. Okay, you probably want a bit more than that.
I started my coaching practice in 1999, first as a health and nutrition coach. I knew nothing about running a business or marketing, least of all starting one. I started speaking to create clients and I made countless mistakes: from booking talks where anyone would have me, speaking anywhere and everywhere (not what I recommend) and taking on anyone with a pulse as a client; to partnering with other clueless starts ups instead of with places that could actually fill the room for me (there is nothing so demoralizing like speaking to an audience of THREE!); to speaking at continuing education classes that were big fat duds; to chambers of commerce with old white men falling asleep in the audience; to speaking at networking groups where people were NOT at all interested in my specialty and I could go on and on. And I've spoken from the big stage many times with audience sizes of 300 - 2000 in the audience and thousands more via a Live Stream, been on film as a key marketing trainer for higher education; I've travelled for speaking gigs, stayed local for speaking gigs, done them online and pretty much everything in between. And I've learned a lot about what not to do and what you must do. You can learn more about me on my webinar here, should that interest you. |
Who is this for ?
This is best for personal or professional development coaches, consultants, healers, practitioners and experts who know they're good at what they do and offer a high-quality, higher-end service.
This is best for those who are serious about speaking as a vehicle to create clients because if you're one of only 20 or so people in my group who is just playing at having a practice or that your practice’s success is still a "optional" for you, I'm not going to be able to help you as much and you'll waste your money.

Who do you work best with ?
70% of my clients are moms who have a business in the personal development/ life transformation field, and who must earn an income or they have to go back to their former career. They want to work school hours because they enjoy being hands-on with their kids and family life.
30% of my clients are single women who are the sole breadwinners in their family or women in early retirement wanting to create a second act. They also appreciate my simplified approach to marketing, because they have other stuff going on too that they are responsible for.
Other than this, I work best with women who already have a practice, earning a bit of money, and have gone as far as they can on their own.
I also work well with start ups who are used to being a successful in a former career, have had at least 15 paid clients, and don't want to waste time figuring things out on their own.
In all cases, the ability to focus and follow-through is essential for my advice to take root in your practice.
Oh, and I like to laugh and not take myself too seriously. So it's essential that you are easy to laugh too. It's more fun that way!

Is this program applicable to giving great little talks ONLINE ?
IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTE: At the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis my clients arrived to their coaching call with a "help, my talks are getting cancelled." We pivoted and start offering online talks right away. Even for local, regional talk locations. For the foreseeable future, all coaching and training materials are about helping my clients talk their Great Little Talk online. The landscape for speaking has in fact expanded during this time.
The short answer is yes, everything I teach is applicable to giving online signature talks.

Who this is not for ?
If you need constant motivation, I'm not your gal.
While I do offer lots of encouragement, mindset coaching and real life stories from my own humbling mistakes, I treat my programs like college level courses.
I expect you to motivated and will not chase you down if you choose to bail mid-way through the program, because you ran into some uncomfortable feelings. All marketing makes you feel a lot. Totally normal.
If you hate the idea of speaking to create clients, probably not the right fit.
If you hate marketing, and are incredibly resistant to it, probably not a fit.
If you have a pretend business, where your spouse is mad that you keep spending money on trainings but not implementing, probably not a fit.
If you're looking for shnazzy, super polished and slick, motivational speaker training, probably not a fit. (see the next Q&A)
If you want to just "try out" speaking, and not really see it all the way through, and secretly hope it will be a quick fix, probably not a fit. (No marketing works like that.)
If you find yourself way too scared to take action or want to avoid feeling some divine discomfort as you learn new skills and practice them in the real world, then probably not for you.
If you're willing to show up, do the work, ask questions when you're stuck, and you don't mind talk about mindset, energy, and women's psychology now and again, I can definitely be useful to you and your practice.

Are you a speaker ?
Yes. I've been speaking for 20 years in my business.
And you should know, I'm not AT ALL a polished, slick speaker.
I specialize in keeping it real, being authentic, making the audience chuckle at my imperfections (I once forgot what I was saying in front of 2000 people on stage at Lincoln Center, in NYC. Yup. Embarrassing. And I survived! And so did my business! I’ll be telling that story in this program so you can learn from something I was totally surprised by when I was onstage). So you do not have to be perfect.
In fact I've taken high end speaker trainings and traveled multiple times across the country to do so, and I failed miserably at all the moves and grooves you're supposed to do on stage to really wow people with "slick" motivational speaking.
I don't train people to be motivational speakers for a living. (That is it's own beast.) I train people who have a service business to use speaking as a vehicle for creating private clients by educating their ideal clients.
Even if you imagine one day being on the big stage, it all starts here.
These days I mostly do speaking for higher education via webinars and Zoom presentations and have turned my own signature talk into a webinar that you may have seen on Facebook.
So I still do the very thing I teach you. It's just evolved into leveraging advanced marketing tools that a mature business can invest in. Which you too can do later, once you've got the basics down, okay?
