Calling all coaches, consultants and practitioners with a service-based business and a family life…
- What's the fastest way to fill your practice without tons of money, complicated web technology or advanced marketing skills?
- What's the fastest way to test your new business idea and see if it's a viable venture?
- What's the sure fire way to see how serious you are about turning your practice into something that powerfully contributes to your family's financial well-being?
Answer: Get in front of a room of your ideal clients, online or offline, and give them a great little talk.
But not just any ol' talk
Certainly not the kind of presentation that...
Nope.
That's not what I'm talking about.
- Leaves everyone feeling "stuffed to the gills" with information and thinking they don't need your services
- Ends with "she was great" testimonials but doesn't lead to real paying clients
- Results in feeling like you're running around giving tons of free info and getting nothing in return
- Pays you a few hundred dollars per person here and there and leaves you constantly trying to fill your next class in hopes of making your ends meet
- And certainly NOT the kind of talk that you have to fill yourself (DO NOT DO THIS!)
Nope.
That's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about the kind of great, little talk that
✓ Requires low/no technology and minimal financial investment
✓ Allows you to do so locally or within a comfortable driving distance and easily pivot to online venues
✓ Creates clients and opportunities, every single time you speak
✓ Positions you as an expert in solving a specific problem for a specific group of people
✓ Calls you to choose a message, get out there and test it right away (instead of hiding behind your computer)
✓ Sets you up to leverage your little talk into a webinar, podcast interviews, Zoom classes and take your talk online (something we're all doing now, post COVID-19)

First, you and I have got to get real.
Here's how coaches, consultants and practitioners mess up their talks (and I've been one of them!)
1. The Topic - you haven't found a way to make your topic really compelling, so no one seems interested.
2. The Structure - you haven't found an authentic way to turn your talks into a client creation, start-to-finish experience (Maybe you do lots of talks, but they don't do much for your income).
3. The Booking - you haven't found a way to navigate the ups and downs of booking talks, handling key contacts or even where to give talks, so you find your self hitting a wall.
4. The Consistency - you're not speaking frequently enough to make this your reliable source of new clients (This is part art and science).
5. The Medium - you see gurus you admire do webinars, and so you try it too, but no one is really showing up (That's complicated, advanced marketing stuff to pull off my friend! Go where your audience is already gathered instead.)
6. The Follow Up - you haven't found a clear, non-pushy way to invite people to work with you after your talk (Did you know that much of the client creation will happen AFTER your talk?)
7. The Going Pro - you're not afraid of speaking, teaching and giving talks, in-person or online, but it's just not leading to clients yet, and you're not sure why.

Okay, enough is enough!
I'm about to unleash some truth upon that beautiful brain of yours...
What works for a small, service based, higher end private practice isn't necessarily what's been taught in online marketing. Things like...
- Chasing fancy marketing quick fixes that keep you behind your computer and overwhelmed by technology and complicated infrastructure that requires a team of virtual assistants to pull off.
- Trying to launch webinars, telesummits, teleclass series, affiliate programs, or trying to blog your way to "success". These are all strategies that require money, advanced marketing skills, tech know-how, and more.
- Trying to "build your list" and hope to get clients that way. Waiting to build your list to create clients is like collecting people's names and then saving them for later!
- Trying to social media your way to clients. That's what you might think the gurus do to create clients. But I promise you, they're either spending lots on advertising or engaging in another more direct, marketing strategy. (Social media without paid advertising is a SUPPORTIVE strategy, not a stand alone strategy)
- Trying the "wee, look at me!" branding stuff, that screams "don't I look rich, famous and successful, and isn't my life perfect looking, so you should like, totally hire me." This BS attempts to glamour your audience into hiring you (yep, that's a True Blood reference for ya) but doesn't actually do anything for those without already a big following.
Bottom line: Stop trying to build a big platform before you've got ONE client creating strategy working really well.
That's backwards!
All that stuff works when used in concert with ONE direct marketing strategy that puts you in front of ideal clients (with no "middleman") and allows you to book consultations right away.
It does not work on it's own to create clients (at least not usually).
I know that’s what BIG businesses with team, assistants and funds look like they’re doing.
But that's not the reality for the rest of us.
You, me and the rest of the small, but mighty higher end, relationship based practices need a core marketing strategy that allows us to give our ideal clients an experience, an education and an opportunity to say yes (or no) to booking a consultation.
And speaking works beautifully for this purpose.
Speaking is the simplest and most affordable path to clients
Here's how speaking works.
The rest of the audience who didn't sign up for a first appointment with you, they go on your email list (and you keep in touch with them, and this is not optional - that is how to use your email list).
Then a portion of those sessions that you booked, that are a great fit for your work, become high-paying clients that sign up for your start-to-finish program or package of service.
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
That's all you need to do.
And you know what?
You don't even need a powerpoint presentation to do pull this off.
You just need gumption and a little know-how to get out there and start doing it now.
- You get in front of a small group of ideal clients (say 20 or 30 people), online or offline.
- You give the audience a really great experience and useful information.
- You invite the audience to a free or low-cost session with you.
- A portion will say yes (say, 5%-20% of the room, not always of course, as some people are ready later, but enough times).
The rest of the audience who didn't sign up for a first appointment with you, they go on your email list (and you keep in touch with them, and this is not optional - that is how to use your email list).

That's all you need to do.
And you know what?
You don't even need a powerpoint presentation to do pull this off.
You just need gumption and a little know-how to get out there and start doing it now.
Now, of course there are different kinds of speaking you can do.
There's the leading big events and speaking from the stage, that most people's egos fantasize about. (Been there, done that.)
There's the online stuff like hosting webinars, tele-classes and podcasts that sound easy and "safe", but it's a bit more advanced to pull off on your own (you want to be able to do these for OTHER PEOPLE'S AUDIENCES)
And there's everything in between like cozy, fireside chats, a Ladies Night In, and 20 min speaker slots for professional groups, to keynotes, workshops, trainings, seminars, panelist speaking and more.
What is the best, easiest place to start, even if you secretly yearn to hit the big stage one day?
A little, 60-90 minute, signature talk.

Think big, go small, and then keep it going.
By small I mean speaking regularly, about twice per month, to small groups of people.
You can do this locally, regionally and online.
And for the foreseeable future, we are taking your talks ALL ONLINE. Thanks to COVID-19.
And here's why this works.
The competition for attention online is steep and expensive.
Competition offline and in your area (even for online presentations) is far less so.
Even if you live in a spot where there are many people doing what you do, learning how to do this right will have you stand out. Easily.
(Because everyone says the same generic thing!)
It's relatively inexpensive. All you need is a bit of time, there's not a big output of cash like in promoting your own webinar and advertising on Facebook or setting up tele-summits.
It's also direct and instant feedback with REAL people. You'll know quickly what's relevant to your audience and what's not.
IF you do it the right way.
And IF you speak to the right people.
And IF you don't quit after just a few talks.
And I want to show you how to do this right.

Before I explain how I'll do that, I have to share something about the "little" in "great little talks"
Have you noticed how everywhere you look, there seems to be only one version of success in coaching, consulting or private practice that's shown over and over again?
The message is quite clear:
Go big or go home with celebrity based, perfect hair and make-up marketing.
It's so extreme that even the social media ads I see contain nothing but glamour shots of coaches on yachts or on the beach, living the "I hardly work" lifestyle.
I'm not knocking it.
I thought I wanted that too, until I had a wake up call (Hello two kiddos!).
It turns out, I liked my quiet, peaceful, family first lifestyle more than building an empire.
Again, this surprised me. (Dang it if those kids don't change you! LOL!)
But let's get real: most coaches, consultants and practitioners will never become gurus who run million dollar companies.
It's not that we're not capable, we're just not that interested in becoming CEOs!
Like me, you probably got into business for yourself to make a difference for a living, and create a better life for you and your family.
And that leaves the rest of us with a small, budding business wondering "where are the non-famous coaches out there, who are thriving with a quietly successful business that doesn’t rely on celebrity status?"
Well, here I am.
I'm not famous. I've not been on TV. I don't have a massive list. I don't lead 300+ person events. I don't have a best seller. I work school hours. I take about 7 weeks off per year.
I don't even have a yacht (we do have a canoe and a couple kayaks though.)
And yet, wonder of wonders, I'm still happy, peaceful and powerfully contributing to my family's financial well-being and sending kiddos to a sweet, alternative private school.
The good news is, you don't have to be famous or have Kardashian hair either to thrive in your practice.

You can have a Happy Little Practice, one that makes you, your clients and your family happy, with great little talks
Even if you want a BIG practice someday, and dream of speaking from the stage to hundreds or thousands, you still need to create a Happy LITTLE practice first, and master creating and managing a small following.
And you can do that by giving great little talks consistently, to the right people.

Introducing
The Complete Signature Talk System for Giving Great Little Talks that Fill Your Practice
Here's what I can show you how to do...
Lesson 1: Where to Speak (Or how does this "little talk thing" even work?)
I'll provide an overview of the different types of little talks you can do (from where you can do them to how you can lead them), how they work and how to choose the right one for you. I'll include popular and easy places to start speaking in-person in your local area, how speaking works as your ONE core marketing strategy and what rules to live by to avoid the death wish of speaking gigs: filling your own talks.
You'll end this lesson with a good "lay of the land" so you'll know how to navigate it.
Lesson 2: What to Speak About (Or which of your ideas is the best and for whom)
I'll show you how to choose your signature talk topic (from the many ideas you have). This is like getting your niche clarified and then deciding to go test your idea right away. I'll show you how to create your talk title and subtitle and clarify the exact purpose of your talk. You'll also create a short and sweet talk description that inspires people to attend. This will get you ready to start booking talks right away.
Lesson 3: What to Say to Land Speaking Gigs (Or how not to blow it before you've landed the gig)
From the initial contact, to understanding the rhythm of booking speaking gigs (some get booked right away, some take a long time) and the art and science of how to reach out, follow up, and become quietly unforgettable in your communication with key contacts without being creepy.
Lesson 4: How to Fool Proof Your Follow-Up (Or basically how to not chicken out at the first sign of resistance!)
You're going to have to follow-up with people. And the good news is, most people don't, so you'll immediately stand out if you do. I'll help you find your groove with this by showing you what to say, what not to say, how not to sound desperate and self-oriented, and how to have people look forward to hearing from you, spreading good will with every email you send regarding booking your great, little talk.
Lesson 5: What to Say During Your Talk (And why you don't want to work on your talk until you've booked your gig)
I've got a rock solid yet ridiculously simple template for presentations that covers all your bases: from connecting with the audience, giving your information in a format that gets through to people, to how to invite people to a session with you, and more. Nothing too fancy or slick. You'll feel like an educator, not a sales-pro when you do this. And, you'll be able to use this structure again and again in a variety of different formats. I still do!
Lesson 6: What to Say After the Talk (Or what the heck happened and how do I fix it?!)
I'll teach you the art and science of follow up after an event (with the audience and the organization's decision makers), how to rebook if it turned into a client magnet and generally make sure you don't drop the ball.

Fair warning, this is not for wallflowers
While I'll simplify all of this, it's not meant to be easy-peasy.
It may not even happen overnight.
You may need to reach out to 20-30 people before you get your first YES.
Or you may be booked solid from the get-go.
I've seen it all.
But once you learn how to do this (and you actually do it instead of just think about it), it will change your business.
But it will take time.
Aren't you tired of people telling you having a private practice is SO easy?
No marketing is super EASY.
But marketing can be SIMPLE.
And simple is doable.

Listen, this isn't going to be difficult, it just makes you FEEL a whole heck of a lot.
Why? Because you'll be nervous, and your little or not so little fears may be triggered here and there and that's okay and perfectly normal.
Having a successful private practice is for the big girls and boys.
It makes you feel A LOT.
It's quite thrilling actually when you start to see this as part of the journey and learn how to handle it. :)
So, you will take really good care of yourself AND...
You. Will. Keep. Going.
You shake in your boots a wee bit, you laugh at yourself, you might even tell the audience at your first few talks "hey, I'm totally nervous and I may fumble a bit up here, but I promise I have good information that will be useful to you" type of thing.... And you keep going.

So here's how this is going to work...
The People:
My clients tend to like quieter, more intimate coaching environments with less “noise” and visual “clutter” to sift through.
You can work with me privately on this topic, or join a small cohort of members who receive full access to my Great Little Talks program as part of their membership to the Happy Little Practice Club.
You see, I run a small, boutique coaching company and it's just me and one very part-time assistant. I like cozy environments where everyone can have personalized attention. You will not be lost in a sea of hundreds of people.

Private Coaching:
As a member of the Happy Little Practice Club you will receive a 60-minute private coaching session with me to work on your talk. Just you and I on the phone, ironing this stuff out: From what topic to choose, or if you have that down, where to give this talk or what to say during the talk.
The Lessons:
All the teachings I outlined in the 6 Lessons above, they are pre-recorded into simple to stream classes, so you can grab them. Then...
You'll Show Me Your Work:
I'll include a step-by-step Action Guide for each lesson for you to complete and show me your work in our private Help Desk just for my eyes only. You'll always know what to do and in what order. You should expect to write me a progress update once per week in the private Help Desk to share your progress and questions for our weekly small group coaching call.
Really get this:
You will show me your work every step of the way, so I can make sure you're on the right track. It will feel like me working with you privately, but in a small group setting. We’ll learn from each other's questions and progress. I'll comment on your work, make suggestions, coach you on any blocks you may have and even make light edits when needed.
On-the-Job Training
You'll want to start booking talks right away, even before you're done with the lessons. That means, as soon as you have ONE idea for where you could speak (and ONE idea is all you need) you'll get in touch (I have sample emails you can use as a template). Then report back on our weekly small group coaching calls and share what went well, and what didn't and we'll problem solve and get you right back out there. One place at a time, one talk at a time.
We'll Talk Weekly:
Each week, during the first three weeks of the month, I'll host open Office Hours. (Mondays at 1pm ET) I'll hang out on the call for about an hour, and you ask me anything you want about any lesson in our roundtable virtual meeting. This is like visiting your favorite college professor to run things by, talk things through, get quick feedback or strategy or share high-fives on a success. No appointment necessary, no curriculum, just me ready to help, problem solve and infuse you with courage.
You'll Book Talks Under My Care:
You have 6 Months of my coaching, support and 20 years of speaking experience at the ready to work through the lessons, show me your work, get my feedback and editing on each step of the way. This is more than enough time to book at least a handful, if not a many talks. Ideally, you'll want to do a talk (even a practice one!) while you're in this coaching program.
Join me and Receive 6 Months of My Personalized Coaching
This is an open enrollment program.
This means, join when you're ready.
You can do this in a small group setting via the Happy Little Practice Club or work privately with me and skip the group setting. Your choice, two different investments of course. Just book a first appointment and we can discuss it here.
(Yes, I’m pretty selective about who I work with long-term so I always like to start our coaching relationship with a complete start-to-finish solution and coaching experience so I can see how you work.)

Your Investment
What You'll Get
- You'll receive personalized guidance on all the 6 Lessons I've outlined above to creating, leading and booking great little talks to fill your practice
- You'll receive a 60-minute private coaching session with me to work on your talk, ensuring you pick your best idea out of the many that you have
- You'll be able to talk to me weekly, in a small group setting during my open Office Hours, ironing out any stumbling blocks along the way and ensuring you keep making steady progress

I think it’s fair to say that all of this is worth at least one client for you and likely many more, as this is the kind of marketing strategy that never goes out of style and keeps on giving and giving and giving, once you learn how to do it well.
Even if you eventually choose to expand your repertoire of speaking and try webinars and speaking at larger events like conferences, this is the exact skill set I have learned and used to feel confident and authentic in a variety of speaking situations and you can learn this too.
That said, most coaches, consultants and practitioners, are charging at least $800 - $1500 (those newer in business or charging by the hour), and my experienced clients charge $2500 - $5000 per client.
So to be conservative, let’s say you might need ONE to THREE new paying clients to see a return on your investment of your time, money and energy, depending what stage of business you’re in. Apply below and let's set up an appointment to talk and see if this is program and my coaching is the right fit for you and your business.
